Awards
Each year the Safety Committee promotes safe digging practices across all GDOT districts. Each district submits nominations for their potential winners using the nomination form (available in the Library of the Safety Committee page under Committees). Nomination forms are accepted from December 1 through January 15.
From these district winners, the Safety Committee selects one recipient for the Lester E. Feathers Golden Backhoe Safety Award. All district winners are recognized during the annual awards presentation at the GUCC Annual Conference (typically held in March or April).
The recipient of the Lester E. Feathers Golden Backhoe Safety Award is chosen based on contributions that exceed those of their peers. Selection is determined by the Safety Committee’s collective judgement, and all decisions are final.
All district winners receive awards and shirts. The overall Lester E. Feathers Golden Backhoe Safety Award recipient also receives a Throwdown lunch in recognition of their achievement.
